The holding company – Thai Treasures Co. Ltd was founded in 1993, in Krabi Thailand, The land was purchased in 1993 and the hotel opened in 1996 and at that time there was only the Krabi Resort, and all the other hotels were bamboo bungalow style–the average room rate was $US 30 a night. We opened in 1996 charging $100 a night, and were fully booked with clients from Hong Kong and ex-pats from Bangkok who wanted to experience the beauty of Krabi, but in a luxury environment.
The hotel sector is growing rapidly in Krabi since the expansion of the Krabi International Airport in November 2013. At this time there are direct flights to Krabi from Oslo, Helsinki, Stockholm, Moscow, Seoul, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Penang.
The industry has become more competitive as the big hotel chains have arrived – Sheraton, Sofitel, Ritz Carlton, Ibis Holiday Inn etc..
During the winter months in Europe – December to May the clients are mostly European with a heavy emphasis on Scandinavians. During the summer months it changes to more Asian- Korean, Chinese, Singaporeans, Malay and Australians. They come to us because we have a reputation as a family run hotel that catered to the clients in a personal way.
Robert C Reynolds the founder of the The Lai Thai Luxury Condominiums and former Director of Credit Suiss Bank–Permanent Thai Resident and Director of the Sriphong Phukaoluan Foundation that supports over 100 Thai children who lost their parents to the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. The foundation has won numerous awards from the League of Foundations under patronage of HM the King of Thailand, the Prime Minister and the Department of Health and Social Services.
